Five post offices are due to close locally: Langney Post Office in Etchingham Road, Marine Parade Post Office in Seaside, The Broadway Post Office in Hampden Park, Wish Hill Post Office in Willingdon and Farmlands Way Post Office in Wannock.

Fri 28th Mar 2008 Last week The Independent Reconfiguration Panel - set up by the government to take responsibility for unpopular decisions away from ministers - said access would be "seriously compromised" if Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS trust went ahead with plans to centralise its paediatric, gynaecology and obstetric departments. This comes in the same week that the HOSC (Health Overview Scrutiny Committee) in East Sussex has referred the PCT's decision to the Reconfiguration Panel to move consultant-led maternity at the DGH to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

Lloyd asks East Sussex County Council to explore Post Office funding Wed 12th Mar 2008 It was announced last week that Essex County Council are negotiating a buy-out price from Post Office Ltd of upwards of 15 Post Offices in the County earmarked for closure. It was further reported that the Minister responsible Pat McFadden MP, has given his approval. The Leader of Essex County Council, Lord Hanningfield, was quoted this week as saying that "up to 50 councils have contacted us around the country" and that "the stated aim is for any investment to be used over three years to help each branch to move towards becoming financially self-sufficient and "cost-neutral."

Lloyd welcomes public backing for Liberal Democrat Europe referendum campaign Tue 4th Mar 2008 Local Liberal Democrats in Eastbourne are stepping up their call for a referendum on whether the UK should be in or out of the European Union. This follows the publication on Monday of a new opinion poll by Ipsos-MORI showing people strongly prefer the Liberal Democrat call for a referendum on membership of the European Union, rather than the Conservative proposal for a referendum only on the Lisbon Treaty.
