Conservative run Eastbourne Borough Council have been forced to drop plans to introduce huge parking charges to a large part of the town.

Their controversial plans were strongly opposed by campaigners and local Lib Dems. Thousands of ordinary Eastbourne residents signed the petition against the Conservative plans.

However celebrations have been muted, as the Conservative run County Council have REFUSED to rule out introducing the new parking scheme despite local objections!

Lib Dem leader Cllr David Tutt said, "This is a complete farce with the Tories in Eastbourne saying one thing while the Conservatives at the County Council saying another. We will keep up our fight to make sure the plans are dropped."

Many local residents are angry at local Council leaders for trying to introduce the scheme in the first place. Only the fear of losing many Council seats in May's elections seems to have made the Conservatives rethink their plans.

David Tutt added, "Tory leaders have shown how out of touch they are by trying to force this scheme on Eastbourne. Already thousands of pounds of taxpayers money has been wasted. They should apologise to local residents."
