Anger at Tory parking plans5.23.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 17th Apr 2006
The Conservative run County Council plans to GO AHEAD with its unpopular plan to introduce huge parking charges across the town. Local residents have reacted with anger and dismay to the news. Only last month, Conservative leaders in Eastbourne said the scheme would not proceed. However those assurances now look meaningless to local residents. Lib Dem leader Cllr David Tutt said, "Tory County Council leaders seem hellbent on introducing parking charges across the town. They must be stopped. The Lib Dems will fight on against these damaging Tory plans." Not listening Thousands of residents have given their backing to the campaign to stop the parking scheme. A poll run by the independent local newspaper showed a huge majority against Tory plans. Despite all this, Tory leaders are refusing to drop the scheme. Lib Dem Cllr Maurice Skilton said, "Local people can have their say on Conservative parking plans in the elections to be held on Thursday 4th May.Every vote for the Lib Dems will be a vote against huge parking charges in our town."
