Eastbourne pensioners have been hit hard by rising Council Tax bills, Post Office closures and County Council cuts to important care services. Old Town Councillor Maurice Skilton is fighting to get a better deal for local pensioners who have been ignored by those in power for too long.

Maurice Skilton said, "It is shameful the way we allow so many elderly and infirm to live in poverty in our community. More needs to be done so that pensioners can enjoy a secure and dignified retirement."

Maurice, who is a Vice President and Trustee of Age Concern in Eastbourne, has congratulated local care services for the work they do. However their work is being undermined by County Council cuts and an uncaring Labour Government.

A fair deal for pensioners

Maurice Skilton and the local Lib Dems are pledging to fight for a better deal for local pensioners. They have welcomed the recent introduction of free bus passes for pensioners, but much more needs to be done. Top priorities include protecting and improving local care services and fighting to protect our local post offices. The Lib Dems also want to abolish the unfair Council Tax that hits local pensioners especially hard.

Lib Dem campaigner Bren Creaven said, "Local pensioners have had enough of Conservative Council cuts and being ignored by a Labour Government. It's time pensioners got a fair deal."
