Langney Lib Dem Councillor Irene Sims has spoken out after news that Christmas hamper and voucher firm Farepak has collapsed, leaving thousands of people facing a bleak Christmas this year.

Farepak ran a savings scheme for 150,000 people for vouchers and Christmas hampers, but the company collapsed in October without offering compensation to any of its customers.

Irene said: "With Christmas just around the corner, Farepak's collapse could not have come at a worse time."

"I personally know people who are affected by this, all of whom are deeply distressed by the news that they will not now receive their Christmas hampers."

A fund has been set up to help those affected by Farepak's closure, which will contact Farepak's agents directly to try and distribute donated vouchers. More information about the help available can be found on Farepak's web site at www.farepakresponsefund.org.uk.
