Old Town Lib Dem campaigners Carolyn Heaps and Andrew Goodwin are pressuring the Conservative Borough Council to get their Conservative County Hall colleagues to provide better facilities for young people in Old Town and Eastbourne.

Carolyn said: "I am a practice nurse and a mother, and I have spoken to young people in Old Town on several occasions and it is my experience that the majority of these children are not bad; they're bored. There is no venue, no centre for large numbers of children to meet together safely. As a nurse I know the importance of healthy lifestyle and structure to lives, we need to be offering activity and facilities for the youth of today."

"This is why I propose that we commit ourselves to offering an arena for communicating effectively with this group of young people. I urge Eastbourne Borough Council to commit itself to looking into this area of need, and I stress that that the young people of Eastbourne before long will be the voters."

Andrew Goodwin added: "As a young man living in Eastbourne, I am acutely aware of the lack of facilities that are currently provided by Eastbourne Borough and County Council for teenagers and young adults like myself. How many events have been put on or places been opened specifically for teenagers? How many events have either of the councils put on for younger people in the past year for the future, adult residents of this town? I would like the Borough and County council to work closer together and first of all find out what we, the youth of today want from our town. Then put these ideas into action."
