Coppall Roundabout - Are new Traffic Lights Safe ??

4.06.57pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 5th Dec 2006

Many Polegate and Willingdon residents have expressed concern about reports that the traffic lights are going to be reinstated at Coppall Roundabout, Polegate.

Polegate CountyCllr, Roy Martin said:

"I have received many complaints. Everybody knows that when the traffic lights were there before it was chaos and since they have been taken out of use traffic has moved much more freely. The experts tell us that the new lights will be greatly improved. Let us hope so !

I will be keeping a very close eye on developments and if this latest idea does not work I will be insisting that they are removed once and for all.

Willingdon Cllr Andy Watkins added:

"I have received a number of complaints from residents concerned that traffic lights are being put back. It is surprising that the experts did not get the lights right as part of the original design of this roundabout but local residents know that the design of the slip road going east was also designed incorrectly. It really is not good enough to experiment on local people in this way and I see no reason why all of this should not have been sorted out properly at the design stage."
