At full council last week Lib Dem parliamentary challenger, Stephen Lloyd, and Langney campaigner Harun Miah spoke out against the Borough Councils proposal to substantially increase the rent due from Eastbourne Borough Football Club for the Priory Road ground.

Councillor Neil Stanley, on behalf of the Liberal Democrat group, presented a notice of motion deploring the proposed rent increase for Langney Playing Fields Association with its 'consequent catastrophic impact on Eastbourne Borough Football Club' and requested the 'rent increase and all future ones be determined by a panel of members'.

Lloyd said: "Borough FC is an Eastbourne success story so I find it very worrying the council is even contemplating ratcheting up the rent by an incredible 500%. They should be supporting the club not damaging it. Many residents from across the Town have contacting me asking for help in stopping this crazy rent increase and they can rest assured the Lib Dems will not stop campaigning on the issue until the council see's sense."

Langney campaigner Harun Miah added: "I was so incensed by this proposed hike in rent, I felt it important to attend the council meeting personally to speak in support of the Lib Dem Notice of Motion. Eastbourne Borough Football Club does such a wonderful job in our community, across all the ages, it is vital the Council listen to the views of local people and remove the threat of such a punitive rent increase."
