Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Stephen Lloyd has spoken out against the possible closure of more Post Offices in our area.

The Labour government has announced a consultation on the future of Post Offices, which is likely to result in 2,500 more branches being closed.

Lib Dem Parliamentary campaigner Stephen Lloyd said, "Liberal Democrats have a good track record of fighting for Eastbourne's Post Offices and we are determined to fight any future threats to our Post Offices."

Liberal Democrats successfully campaigned against the closure of Hampden Park's Brassey Parade Post Office back in 2004, and went on to secure its future in 2005.

Stephen Lloyd also warned that the Government's plans to scrap the Post Office Card Account could lead to another devastating round of closures.

Stephen added. "It is those most vulnerable in society that use Post Offices, such as the elderly and disabled. We should provide them with the first class service that they deserve."

Thousands of local post offices have been closed by both Conservative and Labour governments in the last two decades alone.

Hampden Park Councillor Mike Thompson added, "It is astonishing that Tony Blair's government seems intent on destroying a service which is of such great value to so many people across our community."

"We must act now to save our Post Offices."
