Eastbourne's Lib Dem campaigners are demanding that the Conservatives should not put up Council Tax at all this year.

In their recently announced Budget for the coming year, the Conservative-run Borough Council agreed to put up Council Tax by 2.5%.

Amongst other things, the rise will help pay for the 52% pay hike the Conservatives recently voted themselves.

Old Town Lib Dem Campaigner Andrew Goodwin said, "The Tories have just gone too far and local people are very angry. Not satisfied in giving themselves a huge pay-rise, they have now decided to increase the Council Tax even further."

Local Campaigner Carolyn Heaps added, "The Liberal Democrats found more than enough savings for a 0% increase in Council Tax this year. Sadly, the Conservatives voted against this."
