It was reported in the Herald recently that Mr Sunny Putland, who lives in Wordsworth Drive, had received a £40 parking ticket from DGH. Mr Putland had taken his grand-daughter to Emergency after she'd suffered a bad fall and in his anxiety forgot to purchase a ticket. Mr Putland immediately contacted Stephen Lloyd, the Lib Dem parliamentary campaigner, asking for his help.

Lloyd said: "After I contacted DGH I'm pleased they were able to look at Mr Putland's case sympathetically, and that they took the decision to reverse his £40 parking fine. The managers of our local hospital have had their share of negative publicity so I am very happy to pay tribute to them on this issue."

Mr Putland added: "Thank you to the hospital for cancelling my parking ticket. I still think it is wrong the NHS should charge for parking when patients or their relatives have to use the hospital but I'm grateful to them for this decision. I also appreciate Stephen Lloyd intervening on my behalf. Forty pounds is a lot of money to a pensioner like myself."
