Lloyd supports Ming Campbell's decision to stand down as Lib Dem Leader

Eastbourne Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Lloyd said, "Ming Campbell is a fine and honourable man. His decision to stand down from the Leadership of the Liberal Democrats is testament to that. He selflessly put the interests of the Party first rather than his own. Typical of the man."

"It was clear that once Gordon Brown called off the snap general election and indicated an election would not take place until at least 2009 or even, possibly 2010, Sir Menzies Campbell took the view that the media's obsession with his age might hinder the strength of the Lib Dem message."

"I respect his personal decision to stand down. He has left the Party in a very good state, as witnessed by the undoubted support we have in Eastbourne & Willingdon. The Lib Dems will continue locally to fight vigorously in the interests of residents not least by continuing our opposition to the unpopular pay to park scheme that East Sussex County Council is still trying to foist on our town."
