Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Lloyd has demanded that failed-hamper business Farepak should provide its customers with compensation before Christmas.

A recent official report found that many former Farepak customers had lost £400 but some had lost more than £2,000.

Stephen said, "When Farepak went bust just over a year ago, it left tens of thousands of low income families impoverished last Christmas. I know that many people right across Eastbourne were affected."

"Langney resident Wendy Harris was a Farepak member. Over a year later she has still not received any compensation whatsoever."

"I find it incredible that the Labour Government is able to magic up £30 billion to bail out Northern Rock but is unwilling to help people like Wendy and her family."

Mrs Harris added: "The news about Farepak last year was devastating for me and for my family. Like many people, I had scrimped and saved to ensure our family had a decent Christmas. Twelve months later we've had nothing in compensation. I think it is wicked that ordinary people have been treated in this way."
