Last Wednesday, Stephen Lloyd, the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate, visited The BEAT Youth Club in Shinewater. Over the last six months The BEAT has been a popular venue for the young people of Shinewater. The club membership is now over 200 and with sessions on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday catering for ages from 7 to 19.

The Club is already supported by the Borough Council and Crime Reduction Partnership and has been running a project involving 'Community Engagement' for the over 16's funded by Sussex Community Foundation. This project ends by September and the Club Chairman invited Stephen and Jim Murray, the Club founder, to discuss a new project that would help the school leavers with a similar theme. Stephen stated "With the current economic situation we must do all we can to help our young people into work or further training. The BEAT can play an important role as a focal point of activity and information for those seeking work".

Jim Murray supported the project and saw an opportunity for focused Drop-Ins that would offer basic vocational and office skills. The project would need help from local volunteers so if you are prepared to help support our 2009 generation of school leavers please call the Club's Community Engagement Worker, Jessie Scott, on 07927 319226.
